DePaul commences dual-match season Saturday at Purdue
CHICAGO – There's nothing quite like the beginning of season when optimism is high and anything is possible.
It will be a fresh start for the DePaul women's tennis team with its first dual match of the year Saturday at Purdue.
The opener is set for 9 a.m. (Central Time) in West Lafayette, Ind. at the Boilermakers' tennis facility Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
Following the match, the Blue Demons will head to Kalamazoo, Mich. to prepare for Sunday's 10 a.m. nonconference matchup against Western Michigan at Sorensen Courts in the West Hills Athletic Club.
After the fall tournament season, Maddie Yergler and Alina Kuzmenkova came away with winning records in singles. Yergler was 6-5 and Kuzmenkova 2-1. Hristina Djokic finished just below .500 at 4-5.
The most successful Blue Demon doubles team was Aspasia Avgeri and Marija Jovicic at 4-2. Djokic and Jovicic won their lone doubles match.
Milica Tesic and Jovicic, No. 1 singles player Keisha Clousing and Yergler, Clousing/Djokic, Tesic/ Yergler and Clousing/Jovicic all wound up 1-1.
Big Ten adversary Purdue is led by talented Silvio Ambrosio who was No. 19 nationally in the ITA fall rankings. That is the highest ranking in Boilermaker women's tennis history.
Western Michigan is 1-0 in the dual season after opening with a 6-1 victory against Oakland last week. The Broncos will tangle with Notre Dame on Friday. Western Michigan was picked to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference by the league's coaches.
