It's a Record-Breaking Night for No. 16/16 DePaul

New highs for points and three-pointers in 124-61 win over Savannah State
CHICAGO – It was a record-breaking performance for No. 16/16 DePaul Monday night returning to McGrath-Phillips Arena for its first home game since Nov. 17.
The Blue Demons celebrated their "homecoming" with a resounding 124-61 victory over Savannah State, setting all-time program records for most points in a game (124) and most three-pointers in a game (22).
Tanita Allen officially eclipsed the previous high of 19 threes with a corner three-ball as the clock showed 7 minutes, 12 seconds left in the game.
They would continue the long-distance marksmanship and finished 22-of-41 from beyond the arc for an impressive 53.7 percent.
The record for total points in a game was set, appropriately enough, on a three-pointer by Lexi Held with less than two minutes to go.
It was the freshman guard Held who headed up the scoring parade with a season-high 28 points while the hot-shooting Chante Stonewall added 20 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Sophomore Dee Bekelja had the best game of her career with her first double-double (16 points, team-high 12 rebounds). Freshman Sonya Morris contributed a season-high 13 points, Mart'e Grays had 12 points and six boards and Tanita Allen filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
DePaul (4-2) opened the game with a 26-2 run that featured three-pointers from Grays, Morris, Rebekah Dahlman, Allen and Maya Stovall along with a Held three-point play.
Behind eight points from Held on 3-of-4 shooting, the Blue Demons led 33-12 after one quarter.
A nine-point scoring burst courtesy of Stonewall increased the lead to 49-17 midway through the second quarter. Coach Doug Bruno's team was streaking up and down the floor and finding good looks against the overmatched Tigers (2-3).
A pair of Stonewall free throws capped off a 17-2 run as the margin expanded to 54-17.
The game provided DePaul's freshmen ample opportunities for a healthy dose of playing time as they continue to gain experience early in the season. Bruno used all 10 of his available players.
Stonewall's 15 points sparked her team to a 65-23 lead at halftime. The Blue Demons kept up their free throw accuracy making 19-of-20 in the first 20 minutes.
Backing up Stonewall, Held had 13 points and Morris 10 by the middle of the third quarter as the home team built an 80-35 cushion. At that point, Bruno was going with a lineup of Allen and four freshmen (Held, Morris, Stovall and Jolene Daninger.
An Allen three and two more from distance from Held made it 89-27. Held made four of her first seven shots from behind the arc and finished 5-for-10. Bekelja's three-pointer gave the Blue Demons a 96-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The end of a rugged stretch is at hand as Wednesday's game against No. 2/2 Connecticut at Hartford will be the fifth game in seven days.
