Morris Earns First Career BIG EAST Accolade

Sonya Morris named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday
CHICAGO – Sonya Morris received some good news Sunday heading into No. 19/20 DePaul's BIG EAST showdown with Providence.
The multi-talented guard earned her first conference accolade as she was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Morris was one of the league's top two rookie scorers last week after finishing with 10 points and two assists in the Blue Demons' 85-82 loss to Creighton on Saturday.
She made 4-of-5 shots from the field, and that 80-percent clip was the second most accurate in the BIG EAST last week. Included in that perimeter marksmanship was 2-for-2 from three-point range.
Morris scored seven consecutive points in the second quarter, helping DePaul outscore the Bluejays 27-10 in the period.
This is the third time in eight weeks that a Blue Demon has won Freshman of the Week. Lexi Held, who also scored 10 points against Creighton, won the award on Dec. 3 and Dec. 10.
Both Morris and Held are developing into reliable options for coach Doug Bruno's versatile lineup that can go nine or 10-deep.
Morris has reached double figures in scoring the last two games and Held has accomplished that four games in a row.
The Blue Demons square off with the Friars at 2 p.m. Monday at McGrath-Phillips Arena looking to finish off 2018 on a high note.
