Scalzitti tabbed BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week

CHICAGO - The BIG EAST released its weekly honors for softball on Monday, tabbing DePaul's Angela Scalzitti as its Player of the Week.
Against Villanova this past weekend, Scalzitti tallied three doubles to provide six runs for the Blue Demons in their series sweep of the Wildcats. The Elmhurst, Ill., native led DePaul with a 1.167 slugging percentage and .667 batting average during the series. To date, Scalzitti carries the second-highest batting average for DePaul with a.347. Monday's honor is the second time this season that Scalzitti has received recognition from the BIG EAST as the center fielder was tabbed to the Weekly Honor Roll on February 12.
Senior Kennedy Garcia also was highlighted by the BIG EAST on the its Weekly Honor Roll. Garcia pitched a complete game victory in DePaul's 12-1 win over Villanova on Saturday, March 31. The right-hander allowed just one earned run on four hits, facing 18 batters over five innings without surrendering a walk. In 13 appearances in 2018, Garcia carries a 4-3 record and 2.47 ERA. The Odessa, Texas native has also struck out 35 batters in 45.1 innings of work.
The Blue Demons sit at 23-11 on the season and are a perfect 6-0 in BIG EAST play. DePaul returns to action this weekend as the Blue Demons host Georgetown at Cacciatore Stadium for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
