Visitors at Bowling Green Thurday, Host Alabama on Sunday
CHICAGO - The DePaul women's soccer team has two matches ahead of them this week. They will visit Bowling Green for a 4:00 p.m. contest on Thursday and are set for a 1:00 p.m. home match against Alabama on Sunday at Wish Field.Â
Last week, the Blue Demons defeated Red Line Rival Loyola Chicago 1-0 with a game winner that found the back left side of the net from sophomore forward Morgan Turner. DePaul secured their fourth W in their last five matches to move to 4-2 on the season. Then on Sunday, they would finish against LMU scoreless after full 110 minute, double overtime match that saw the defensive back line limit the Lions to just two shots in the first half while the offensive attack would force their keeper to make eight saves, compared to DePaul rookie keeper Mollie Eriksson's three. DePaul currently sits at 4-2-1 on the season.Â
Eriksson would be named the #BIGEASTwsoc Freshman of the Week for her two clean sheets and key saves against LMU - the first award from the BIG EAST so far this season. Eriksson has posted a goals-against average of 0.74 so far this season.Â
Scouting the Falcons
The Falcons are currently 1-3-1 this season after finishing the 2018 season 13-7-1, good enough for second in the MAC East Division. Bowling Green fell to Northwestern earlier last week before dropping a double-overtime match to Xavier that snapped a six-game home winning streak. With that, they will enter the match vs. the Blue Demons with a 8-3 record on their home turf. Head coach Matt Fannon enters his second season with the program after being named MAC Coach of the Year. They welcome back 18 letterwinners that include seven starters. Junior goalkeeper Kathleen Duwve has played all five matches and has racked up 17 saves, one clean sheet and posts a goals against average of 0.92.Â
Scouting the Crimson Tide
Alabama sits at 5-2-1 at the moment, days before their conference home opener on Thursday. DePaul is the lone non-conference game that remains for the Crimson Tide. The finished the 2017 season at 12-1 and have 16 of those players returning, with eight starters. In the last four of its five matches, Alabama has scored four or more goals and is currently on a five-game winning streak, outscoring their competition 22-2. Head coach Wes Hart is in his fourth season at the helm of the program that was picked to finish eighth in the SEC. Goalkeeper Alex Plavin has snagged 27 saves, three shutouts and posts a 0.91 goals against average. On the squad that averages 3.12 goals per game, five of its players were named to the SEC Preseason Watch List.Â
