Mary Tierney scored equalizer in 88th minute
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - In their penultimate non-conference game of the season, DePaul women's soccer battled to a 1-1 draw against the Falcons of Bowling Green on Thursday evening.Â
Thursday's draw marks the second of the season and the third time in program history the team has settled for two consecutive draws. The first came in October 1998 and the second in September 2005. Last year, the Blue Demons would record three consecutive draws in October against Xavier, RV Butler and Providence.Â
It wasn't until the 77th minute that the back and forth game would see a goal from either team. Erica Hubert, Falcons redshirt senior midfielder, put her team up by one with just 12 minutes remaining in the game. Things started to not look good for the Blue Demons until the 88th minute when freshman midfielder Mary Tierney headed the ball past the goalkeeper's hands off a cross from Jade Eriksen-Russo on the left side of the field for the equalizer and sent the game into overtime.Â
The first overtime period saw an offensive attack from DePaul with three shots while the second saw the offensive attack from Bowling Green with four shots, forcing freshman Mollie Eriksson to make three saves total. While neither team would score at the end of the 20 extra minutes, the Blue Demons forced the Falcons' keeper to make a total 13 saves on the night. Â
The offensive line, led by senior captain Franny Cerny and sophomore Morgan Turner as well as Madeline Frick put up a total of 21 shots; Cerny and Turner with five and four on goal, Frick and defender Sydney Parker each put up three shots, one and two on goal, respectively.Â
