BIG EAST play begins on Saturday
CHICAGO - In a back-and-forth physical game on both sides of the ball, DePaul dropped their final non-conference match of the season at Wish Field, 1-0, to Alabama (6-3-1) on Sunday afternoon.
Through the duration of the first half, both teams would put up eight shots, but none found the back of the net. Senior captain Franny Cerny had a great chance with about 20 seconds remaining and tried to place the ball in the back left of the net but it fell just wide to hit the post before bouncing back out.
It wasn't until the 77th minute that the Crimson Tide would slip the ball past freshman goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson's hands. A header from Emma Thomson gave the team a go-ahead goal and it remained that way, despite some opportunities for DePaul to equalize.
Sophomore Jade Eriksen-Russo found her way around 'Bama defenders before giving it one last shot before the clock ran out and it lifted just high of the net. DePaul moves to 4-3-2 on the season.
