Women's Basketball Unveils BIG EAST Schedule

Defending champion Blue Demons open Dec. 29 vs. Creighton at McGrath-Phillips Arena
CHICAGO – In the women's basketball schedule released by the BIG EAST on Monday, defending champion DePaul opens up Dec. 29 against Creighton at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Coach Doug Bruno's program will launch its quest for a sixth consecutive regular-season title and the program's fourth BIG EAST Tournament crown in the last six years.
Two days later on New Year's Eve, the Blue Demons will oppose Providence at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
Then comes the most demanding part of the schedule with three-straight road games starting with BIG EAST power Marquette on Jan. 4 that will be televised on FS1.
"What makes the BIG EAST a really tough conference are the quality teams from top to bottom," Bruno said. "Putting Marquette on top in my preseason coaches' ballot was pretty easy. The Golden Eagles are a nationally ranked program with five returning senior starters who have been together since their freshman year.
"Trying to figure out where the rest of the teams will finish is not easy. Two through nine is going to be so competitive. Villanova and Creighton return a ton of talent. St. John's and Georgetown also have a lot of talent returning.
"My sleeper pick for the BIG EAST is Butler. The Bulldogs return five starters and brought in two very special transfers. Seton Hall always does a great job while Xavier and Providence have very good recruiting classes."
Following the showdown with the Golden Eagles, DePaul heads to Georgetown on Jan. 11 and to Villanova on Jan. 13.
The Blue Demons are back home to face St. John's on Jan. 18 and two days later take on Seton Hall. The first round of BIG EAST play concludes with road games against Butler (Jan. 25) and Xavier (Jan. 27) in a game televised on FS2.
Bruno was impressed by the deep reservoir of talent returning to the conference this season.
"Top to bottom, there are a lot of really talented players in the BIG EAST," he said. "Everybody has players who deserve to be on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Picking the top 10 players for the preseason team was impossible.
"Selecting the reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year Allazia Blockton of Marquette was the easy part. Picking the next nine was really difficult."
Marquette comes to Lincoln Park on Super Bowl Sunday Feb. 3 to commence the second round of league play. Bruno's team has two more home games after that---Feb. 8 against Villanova and Feb. 10 versus Georgetown.
The Blue Demons head east on Feb. 15 to oppose Seton Hall and tackle St. John's two days later in a showdown at Madison Square Garden that will be televised by FS2.
They will play at Wintrust Arena for their final two home games of the regular season starting with a Feb. 22 matchup against Xavier. Two days later, they face Butler on Senior Day.
DePaul finishes up the regular season with a pair of road games, March 1 at Providence and March 3 at Creighton in a BIG EAST finale televised by FS2.
The BIG EAST Tournament returns to Wintrust Arena with first-round games set for March 9 in the South Loop. Quarterfinal action televised on FS2 tips off March 10 followed by the semifinals March 11 and the BIG EAST title game March 12. Both the semifinals and title game will be televised by FS1.

"But this season, Marquette is the team to beat with four of the five returning starters either All-BIG EAST or honorable mention."

- Two ticket packages are available for the 2018-19 DePaul women's basketball season. The women's basketball Wintrust Arena ticket package includes all three regular-season home games played in the South Loop, including the matchup against defending NCAA champion Notre Dame. The Wintrust Arena ticket package is on sale now and starts at just $50 per seat. All remaining home games played at McGrath-Phillips Arena on the Lincoln Park campus are part of the McGrath-Phillips Arena season ticket package for $99.
