Yergler's Run to the Title Comes Up Short

Blue Demon freshman falls Sunday in Bradley Invitational finals
PEORIA, Ill. – Maddie Yergler's remarkable run in her collegiate tournament debut came to an end Sunday at the Bradley Invitational.
The eye-opening freshman from Granger, Ind. had advanced to the title match on the David Markin Tennis Courts but came up short 6-3, 6-2 to Cincinnati sophomore Emma Miceli.
Yergler had prevailed over Bradley freshman Bozana Lojpur in the quarterfinals and Saint Louis senior Ally McKenzie in the semifinals.
It was quite a weekend for the first-year Blue Demon including teaming with fellow freshman Hristina Djokic to win the opening doubles match of their collegiate careers.
In the third-place doubles match, they lost to Cincinnati.
Djokic finished the weekend on a winning note, topping Alexia Coutino of Cincinnati 7-5, 6-3 for fifth-place.
Coach Mark Ardizzone and his team are back in action Oct. 5 at the Wildcat Invite in Evanston..
