Blue Demons Keep Wildcats on Their Toes in Narrow Battle

DePaul fought until the end in a close battle against conference foe Villanova.
CHICAGO - The Blue Demons fought until the end, making it a narrow battle in a loss against conference foe Villanova 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 19-25). This makes DePaul's record 2-12 (0-3 BIG EAST).
In the first set, the first six points were exchanged between sides, capped off by an Avarie Evans-Allen kill to bind the score at 3's. Not long after, ten points were traded, tying the score five more times before a kill from Isabell De La Rosa sparked a 3-0 run from the Blue Demons, putting them up 12-10. With the battle remaining close, the teams knotted one more time at 16's before Villanova gained some momentum that was enough to give them the first, 25-20.
DePaul and Villanova traded the first eight points in the second set to find 4's across the board. DePaul would later go on a 4-0 run courtesy of a VU service error, a De La Rosa kill and a Katie Dolan service ace to bring DePaul within three at 12-15. Towards the end of the set, a VU kill found the Wildcats at set point, but DePaul found some momentum, holding Villanova at 24 for a 5-0 run capped off by an Emma Price kill. Villanova would have the last word and would end the second set with an identical score to the first.
With the third set continuing the back-and-forth nature of play, the first six points were traded to find a 3-3 bind. The Blue Demons later scored three unanswered points courtesy of kills from Price and Donna Brown, and a block from Brown and Mattie Norris to narrow DePaul's deficit to 13-18. One final 3-0 run featuring back-to-back Evans-Allen kills and a De La Rosa kill would bring the Blue Demons within three at 18-21. DePaul's last point would come from an Evans-Allen kill but the Wildcats would go on to take the final set 25-19.
The Blue Demons will return to McGrath-Phillips Arena tomorrow to host conference foe Georgetown in a 6:00 p.m. match.
