Three score at least 20 points in 97-93 win at Seton Hall
NEWARK, N.J. – A total team effort that included 20-point games by Femi Olujobi, Paul Reed and Max Strus led DePaul to a 97-93 win at Seton Hall. Reed and Olujobi both registered double-doubles as DePaul won for the third time in its last four games and swept the Pirates in the season series.
The first 10 minutes played close with Seton Hall taking a six-point advantage before the Blue Demons closed it to 26-24 on a drive and basket by Devin Gage.
Myles Cale led Seton Hall early hitting his first five shots as the Pirates extended the lead back to six. Following Cale's first miss, Max Strus knocked down back-to-back three's on DePaul's next two possessions to tie the score at 32-32 forcing a Seton Hall time out with just over six minutes left in the first half.
The Blue Demons built a six-point lead late in the first half, but a flurry by the Pirates that ended with a long three-pointer just before the horn gave Seton Hall a 49-48 advantage at intermission.
The second half proved to be as entertaining as the first as the two teams traded baskets and the lead multiple times. A three-point play by Strus put DePaul up 71-67 with eight minutes left.
DePaul (11-6, 3-3 BIG EAST) continued to hold the lead, but the Pirates wouldn't go away. A turnaround jumper by Reed beat the shot clock and gave the Blue Demons a 91-86 lead with 1:20 left on the clock.
Over the final 80 seconds, Cain and Gage each knocked down a pair of free throws to seal the four-point win for the Blue Demons. For the game, DePaul went 29-of-32 from the line and made their last 10 free throw attempts over the final 3:42 of the game.
Olujobi totaled 22 points and a season-high 11 rebounds while Reed finished with a career-high 21 points along with 11 boards. Strus went 4-for-6 from three-point range to total 22 points along with six boards. As a team, DePaul outrebounded Seton Hall by a 42-19 margin.
Seton Hall (12-7, 3-4 BIG EAST) was led by Quincy McKnight with 25 points and Myles Powell totaled 24 points for the Pirates.
DePaul continues its three-game road trip Wednesday night at Marquette. Start time on FS1 is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game can also be heard on WIND (560 AM).
