CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer put up a hard defensive fight on Saturday night but ultimately fell to St. John's, 4-2, in Queens, N.Y. The Blue Demons now sit 5-8-3 overall and fall to 1-4-3 in BIG EAST play.
St. John's got the ball rolling in the 35th minute when Tuli Oluwaseyi netted a goal into the top of the net over Blue Demon keeper Drew Nuelle. After the score would remain 1-0 through halftime, the Johnnies wasted no time in gaining a 2-0 lead just a minute into the second half. A header from Brandon Duarte off a corner kick doubled the Red Storm's lead.
Just six minutes later and in DePaul fashion, Jake Fuderer would net his fourth of the season to bring DePaul within one.
In the 66th minute, St. John's Oluwaseyi caught Nuelle off guard who made a save that rebounded right to Drew Rosen who hammered another one home to increase the lead 4-1.
Never counting themselves out, the Blue Demons found a way to keep fighting back. Timmy Iscra passed the ball into the box to Jack Richards who made a sideways pass to Danny Iscra, whose shot hit a Red Storm player and found its way into the back of the net to cut the lead in half, 4-2, the ultimate final score.
DePaul was outshot 22-5 and took just one corner kick compared to the Red Storm's 17. The Blue Demons placed just 4 shots on goal, 10 less than the 14 put up by St. John's. Fuderer had two shots on goal while Nuelle made a career high 10 saves on the night.
