Pitcher's Duel Ends in Dalgarn's Favor

Krista Dalgarn tallied her fifth win on the mound this season in a 4-3 victory.

HONOLULU, HI. – DePaul and tournament host Hawaii remained knotted 1-1 for a majority of the pitcher's duel that ended in DePaul's favor after a nail-biting seventh inning. The Blue Demons walked away with a narrow 4-3 win to remain undefeated in Hawaii Tournament play.

Krista Dalgarn tallied her fifth win on the mound this season after allowing only five hits and three runs. Dalgarn threw five K in the contest.

DePaul scored the first run of the game in the top of the second. Morgan Greenwood singled to left field and advanced her way to third on two different fielder's choice decisions. Alysia Rodriguez ended up reaching first on a fielding error that would score Greenwood to put DePaul up 1-0.

Hawaii responded in the bottom of the second on a solo home run to even the playing field 1-1.

The battle between pitcher's carried on until the top of the seventh when DePaul scored three runs to take a 4-1 lead. Alysia Rodriguez doubled to right field and was replaced by pinch runner Madison Fisher. Taylor Young singled to right field and Fisher advanced to third before scoring on a fielding error by the right fielder.

Maranda Gutierrez reached first on a fielding error, advancing Young to second. Angela Scalzitti then singled up the middle to load the bases. A single from Jessica Cothern would produce 2 RBI, scoring Gutierrez and Young.

Just when it seemed that DePaul's lead was secured, Hawaii crept up to DePaul on a two-run blast that brought the difference to one run. Dalgarn held off the Rainbow Warriors to end the game in DePaul's favor.

Tomorrow, the Blue Demons will face Canisius at 4:00 p.m. CT and will play in one more game to be determined by the result of the first game. Sunday's contest against Hawaii has been canceled.
