DePaul Celebrates Senior Day With a 76-62 Win Over Butler

Blue Demons' sixth-straight win clinches No. 2 seed in BIG EAST tournament
CHICAGO – The Blue Demons sent their seniors off in style Sunday at Wintrust Arena.
With contributions coming all up and down the roster, DePaul won its sixth in a row taking down Butler 76-62. The victory locked up the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST tournament.
Junior Chante Stonewall led the team effort with 17 points and seven rebounds. Senior Ashton Millender finished with 15 points, five rebounds and tied a career high with six assists in her final DePaul home game.
Junior Kelly Campbell contributed 13 points, six rebounds and four assists while freshman Lexi Held added 10 points.Rebekah Dahlman, Tanita Allen, Mart'e Grays and Millender were honored in a postgame ceremony following the game.
After the Bulldogs came within 53-47 early in the fourth quarter, Rebekah Dahlman's basket, Stonewall's three-pointer and a Millender three-point play sparked an 8-2 burst for a 61-49 lead at the media timeout.
Stonewall was having a strong second half after being limited by foul trouble in the first 20 minutes. Butler hit a three that was matched by Campbell before the visiting team scored again. It was 64-54 midway through the period.
A Stonewall three-pointer, Campbell's cut-to-score layup and another Millender long-distance connection put DePaul ahead 72-58 with 1:47 left in the game.
Down by 16 at halftime, Butler opened the third quarter with seven-straight points in narrowing the gap to 39-30. Stonewall responded with five-straight of her own including a three-pointer on a tough feed from Campbell. Held cashed in from behind the arc and the Blue Demons led 47-33 at the third quarter media timeout.
The Bulldogs scored the last six points of the quarter to come within 51-44 heading into the fourth quarter. They outscored DePaul 21-12 in that 10-minute span.
Millender made a couple of nice passes not long after the opening tip to set up Stonewall for back-to-back scores. Three-pointers by Tanita Allen and Campbell pushed DePaul to a 10-4 lead at the first quarter media timeout.
The Blue Demons passing was sharp and crisp in the opening six minutes as the ball whizzed around the Wintrust Arena floor. They appeared to be locked in on Senior Day.
Allen hit another from deep to ignite an 8-1 burst that increased the margin to 19-7. Held scored on a nice move and Millender connected from behind the arc as DePaul finished the first quarter on the high side of a 19-9 score.
Consecutive threes from a hot-shooting Millender jump-started the second quarter for the home team. Sonya Morris scored on a nice athletic move and Allen struck again for a 29-16 advantage at the second quarter media timeout.
Allen was having one of her best games of the season in her final regular-season home game. She was rekindling memories of her sophomore season when she won BIG EAST Sixth Woman Award.
A 10-2 burst highlighted by three-pointers from Held and Campbell sent the Blue Demons into their halftime locker room with a 39-23 cushion.
Millender had an all-around terrific first 20 minutes with nine points, five rebounds and five assists. Allen chipped in with eight points, Held had seven and Campbell six points and five rebounds.
DePaul held Butler to 29 percent shooting from the floor and held an 8-1 advantage in three-pointers. Coach Doug Bruno's team was all over the backboards with a 27-13 rebounding edge and finished with a 41-31 advantage.
The Blue Demons finish up their regular season and BIG EAST schedule with a two-game road trip beginning Friday night at Providence.
