Blue Demons go 1-1 in weekend action

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The DePaul women's tennis team fought until the very last match on Sunday afternoon at the IU Tennis Center, but ultimately the Blue Demons fell short in a 4-3 decision to the Hoosiers.

Indiana got off to a swift start by sweeping No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to claim the early 1-0 advantage.

The Blue Demons picked up the first two matches of singles action to regain the 2-1 match lead.

Maddie Yergler took down Somer Henry at No. 6 via a straight set sweep 6-1, 6-3 to get DePaul rolling. Marija Jovicic continued DePaul's winning prowess with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 performance over IU's Caitlin Bernard at the No. 3 position.

The Hoosiers took matches at No. 2 and No. 5 to retake the 3-2 match lead, but Keisha Clousing turned in a gutsy 7-5, 6-4 performance at No. 1 over Madison Appel to knot the match at 3 apiece.

Following Clousing's victory, all eyes turned to court No. 4 as Lenka Antonijevic took on Indiana's Jelly Bozovic. Despite a gritty outing by Antonijevic, Bozovic took the match 64, 3-6, 6-2.

DePaul (4-7, 2-0) will return to Lincoln Park before hitting the road again next weekend for a matchup with Michigan State on Friday, Mar. 1 at 4 p.m. The Blue Demons will then make the short trip to Cleveland, Ohio for matches against Cleveland State and Case Western Reserve on Saturday, Mar. 2.
