
DePaul Roars Back in Win at Xavier

Blue Demons close game with 21-5 run over final four minutes
CINCINNATI, Ohio – DePaul flipped an eight-point deficit into a 13-point advantage over the final 12-plus minutes to pick up a BIG EAST road win at Xavier. The Blue Demons closed the game with a 21-5 run over the final four minutes as DePaul moved into a tie for third place in the conference standings.
Both teams started slow and the score was knotted at 5-5 midway through the first half as the two sides combined to shoot just 4-of-27 from the field.
The offense picked up as Paul Reed scored seven straight points and his follow up dunk pushed DePaul's lead to 15-11 with just over eight minutes left in the half. DePaul led by as many as five with six minutes left before Xavier went on a run and took a one-point advantage at 22-21. Eli Cain answered on DePaul's next possession to retake the lead and the score went back and forth before the half ended with Xavier holding a 31-30 advantage.
Xavier (11-13, 3-8 BIG EAST) gradually opened up an eight-point lead over the first 10 minutes of the second half, but DePaul wouldn't go away as the Blue Demons battled back and tied the at 57-57 when Max Strus converted off a Xavier turnover with 3:23 left in the game.
The run continued and Cain buried a three-pointer from the wing with just over 90 seconds left to push the lead to 65-57. DePaul took a 13-point lead twice in the final minute Cain knocked down two free throws for the final Blue Demons points.
Strus led DePaul (13-9, 5-6 BIG EAST) with 17 points while Reed and Olujobi scored 15 points apiece and the duo combined for 17 rebounds. Cain scored 13 points and Devin Gage finished with eight points, five rebounds and four assists.
DePaul returns to Wintrust Arena on Tuesday night against Marquette. The 125th meeting between the Blue Demons and Golden Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m. on FOX Sports Networks and WSCR (670 AM).
