Dalgarn Dominates Pitcher's Duel Against Host Houston

HOUSTON, TX. - Krista Dalgarn pitched a shutout, the Blue Demons second of the day, in a narrow 2-0 decision over tournament host Houston. DePaul remains undefeated in the Red and White Showcase after day one. On a nine game win streak, DPU's record improves to 15-1.

Dalgarn threw her seventh win of the season and held Houston offense to just three hits throughout seven innings.

The pitcher's duel lacked offensive action until the top of the fourth when DePaul made the first impact of the game.

Singles from three different Blue Demons would load up the bases with only one out. Maranda Gutierrez, Jessica Cothern and Morgan Greenwood each singled through the right side before Cothern was replaced by pinch runner Cara Jimenez. Kate Polucha grounded out to the pitcher for the RBI that would score Gutierrez and give DPU the first run of the game.

With Jimenez advancing to third on the play, she would then cross home on a single to shortstop from Gabby O'Riley to put DePaul up 2-0 after four innings of play.

The Blue Demons will return to action tomorrow in two different contests. DePaul will compete against Texas State in a 2:00 p.m. game and will then play Houston for the second time at 4:30 p.m.
