Softball Set for Red and White Showcase

The Blue Demons depart for Houston where they will face four different opponents in the Red and White showcase.
CHICAGO, Ill. - Coming off of a 5-0 weekend in the Hawaii Tournament, the Blue Demons are set for their next endeavor as they head to Houston to compete against four teams in the Red and White Showcase. The tournament will feature Texas Southern, host Houston, Texas State and Wichita State.
DePaul will open up Red and White play with two Friday games, first playing Texas Southern at 10:30 a.m. and finishing the day with a game against Houston at 6:00 p.m. The Blue Demons will play in another two games on Saturday, with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Texas State and a 4:30 p.m. game against Houston. DePaul will play its lone Sunday game against Wichita State at 9:00 a.m.
Last Time Versus Texas Southern
This will be the first contest between the Blue Demons and the Tigers.
Scouting the Tigers
Texas Southern currently sits 1-7 on the season after defeating AT Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 2-0, in its lone win of 2019. The Tigers have scored a combined 10 points in their seven games played this season.
Leading at the plate for the Tigers is senior Marissa Padron who is slugging a .389. In her 18 at bats, Padron has tallied one run on seven hits, three doubles and has tacked on five RBI. Padron is also the only player to slam a home run this season for TSU.
With one win and one loss, sophomore Chelsea Baxter has put up the best performance on the mound for the Tigers. Throwing a 3.50 on the season, Baxter has allowed 21 hits and nine runs. She has thrown 12 strikeouts so far this season.
Last Time Versus Houston
DePaul holds a 17-9 advantage in the series against Houston. The Blue Demons lost the last contest between the two in 2015 with a 6-3 final mark.
Scouting the Cougars
Houston is 12-5 on the season and is entering the Red and White Showcase on an eight-game win streak. Houston has taken down one ranked opponent this season in a 4-3 win against No. 13/15 Kentucky.
Junior Lindsey Stewart stands out at the plate for Houston, hitting a .435. In 46 at bats, Stewart tallied 10 runs on 20 hits, one double, four triples, two home runs and has tacked on 17 RBI.
Standing prominent on the mound is senior Presley Bell who is 4-0 on the season. In her 30 innings pitched, Bell has allowed only 17 hits and five runs.
Last Time Versus Texas State
Texas State has won the lone contest between the two in 2016 after topping the Blue Demons 5-1.
Scouting the Bobcats
Texas State currently splits the season with seven wins and seven losses. The Bobcats enter the Red and White Showcase coming off of a 3-0 loss against USF in their final game of the USF Tournament last weekend.
Standing out on the mound are Christiana McDowell and Haleigh Davis. McDowell is slugging a .465 and in her 43 at bats, has scored 14 runs on 20 hits, three doubles, two home runs and has tacked on nine RBI. Davis, who is hitting a .351, has scored seven runs on 13 hits, has slammed four doubles, two home runs and has added 10 RBI.
Leading the pitching staff is Dalilah Barrera, who in her 45.2 innings pitched, has allowed 46 hits and 28 runs. Barrera is throwing a 3.68 and is 5-1 on the season.
Last Time Versus Wichita State
The Blue Demons fell in their lone contest against the Shockers in 1993, with Wichita State winning by one run, 6-5.
Scouting the Shockers
Wichita State holds a 10-4 record on the season and went 3-1 in the Maverick Invitational last weekend, taking down Abilene Christian twice and UT Arlington and falling to Prairie View A&M.
Freshman Lauren Mills leads Shocker offense, hitting a .464. In her 28 at bats, she has scored seven runs on 13 hits, hit two doubles, one home run and has contributed six RBI.
Sophomore Caitlin Bingham stands out among Shocker pitchers. Throwing a 1.60 this season, Bingham has allowed 34 hits, 16 runs and has struck out 44 batters.
