The Blue Demons look to continue the momentum set by successful indoor season
CHICAGO – The DePaul track and field teams open the outdoor portion of the 2018-19 schedule at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic hosted by Southern Illinois. The two-day event at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex in Carbondale, Ill. will kick off on Friday, March 22 with the men's and women's discus throw at 3:30 p.m. CT followed by the triple jump.
Saturday, March 23 holds a full day of competition beginning with the hammer throw at 11:00 a.m. The 3000-meter steeplechase will kick off the track events at 12:30 p.m. CT. The event is free and open to the public.
Set to compete among 10 Division I teams including Purdue, Illinois, Bradley, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, SIUE, Valparaiso, Evansville and host SIU, the Blue Demons look to maintain the momentum from a successful indoor season. DePaul brought home five individual championships and the women's squad earned runner-up at the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championship last month.
Last season, the men's squad finished third and the women's team finished in second place at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Numerous Blue Demons have made headlines this year setting personal bests and breaking school records. Jade Nolan comes into the season having just earned the Most Outstanding Field Performer at the conference meet. The men's squad swept the podium in shot put with Kyle Hedge, Isaac Jimenez and Alex Murray taking the top three spots, respectively.
This event will kick off the beginning of spring break competition for both squads as they prepare for the Florida Relays next week.
