Softball Prepped and Ready for Midweek Matchup at Northwestern

CHICAGO, Ill. - Coming off of a 2-1 run in the opening weekend of BIG EAST play, DePaul will remain local in a lone midweek game at Northwestern Wednesday, March 27 at 4:00 p.m. CT.
The Blue Demons enter the contest 21-9 on the season under the brand new coaching staff of Tracie Adix-Zins, Amanda Buchholz and Joe Yegge.
Last weekend, DPU took two of three games at Butler to open up league play. As a result of a shining offensive performance, freshman Gabby O'Riley was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll going into the contest against Northwestern. Saturday's doubleheader victories at Butler saw home runs from four different DePaul sources in Skylor Hilger, Jessica Cothern, Gabby O'Riley and Morgan Greenwood.
At the plate, the Blue Demons boast three starters with batting averages above .300. Cothern leads the way with a .361 average and also tops the chart in RBI with 27 on the season, home runs with four and doubles with 11, five more than the second-highest amount on the team. Morgan Greenwood has an average of .353 and O'Riley is hitting .338. Greenwood and O'Riley tie with one other teammate for the second-most home runs on the season, with three apiece.
Last Time Versus Northwestern
Northwestern leads 41-20 in the series against the Blue Demons. The two last met in 2018 where the Wildcats took home a 7-3 win after defeating DPU at Cacciatore Stadium. The 'Cats have won the last two contests between the two.
Scouting the Wildcats
At the plate, three Northwestern hitters distinguish themselves from the rest. Jordyn Rudd has a batting average of .354 and with 14 runs and 29 hits has contributed nine doubles, one triple and three home runs. Nikki Cuchran is hitting a .349 with 11 runs on 29 hits. She has added five doubles, one triple and three home runs for her team. Lastly, Morgan Newport has an average of .342 and in her 14 runs and 27 hits, has tallied six doubles, one triple and two home runs.
Danielle Williams is seen most often in the circle for the Wildcats with a 15-3 record on the season. Throwing a 1.17 ERA in her 101.1 innings pitched, Williams has allowed 60 hits and 20 runs.
