Parker hits 10th homer of the season in setback
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Quiet bats early proved costly for DePaul softball in a 5-3 loss to Seton Hall Friday afternoon at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field, as a late rally came up short.
First baseman Chelsea Parker continued her standout sophomore campaign, going 2-for-2 at the plate while reaching base four times and driving in a run on her team-best 10th home run of the season. Designated player Lydia Ettema recorded her eighth multi-hit game of the 2026 campaign, tallying a double and a walk. Outfielders Morgan Rogers and Jolie Adams each drove in a run, with Adams extending her hit streak to nine games.
The Blue Demons used three pitchers in the circle on the day. Senior right-hander Kelly Greene got the start, going 0.1 innings while allowing one hit, one run and issuing a pair of walks. Sophomore Hannah Messer tossed 2.2 innings, surrendering three hits and three unearned runs before giving way to Bella Nigey, who covered the final three innings and allowed one run on three hits.
How It Happened
Houge's leadoff walk moved to third on a passed ball and a groundout, but she was called out at home on an infield play. The Blue Demons left two runners on base in the top of the first.
Seton Hall (18-23, 6-13 BIG EAST) pushed a run across in the first inning, as a leadoff baserunner came around to score on a wild pitch. The Pirates added to their lead in the bottom of the third, plating three runs on three hits and a Blue Demon error.
Parker's solo shot to center put DePaul on the board, cutting the deficit to 4-1 through three and a half innings.
A leadoff single for the Pirates came around to score on a sacrifice fly to left, extending Seton Hall's lead to 5-1 after four innings.
The Blue Demons threatened in the sixth inning, loading the bases with two outs behind a pair of walks and a base hit, but were unable to capitalize.
DePaul (15-25, 4-12 BIG EAST) rallied in the top of the seventh, as Katie Borges led off with a base hit before Houge drew her second walk of the day to put two runners aboard. Rogers sent a base hit through the right side to score Borges and move Houge to third. Adams followed with a double off the wall, plating Houge and advancing Rogers, who was later called out at the plate. The Pirates issued walks to Parker and Ettema to load the bases, but recorded the final out to secure the 5-3 victory in the series opener.
