Brooks Leads DePaul at Illini Twilight

Multiple podium performances in high-level meet
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Returning from downstate with a flurry of top-10 finishes, DePaul track & field was led by Alexia Brooks in the 100-meter hurdles. The senior clocked in a time of 13.61 which was good for gold at the Illini Twilight.
The day-long meet hosted by the University of Illinois saw teams from Valparaiso, UIC, BIG EAST rival Marquette, Milwaukee, the Fighting Illini and others.
In the field, the women's squad saw three performances that earned the Blue Demons a spot on the podium. In the women's long jump, senior Sydnee Matthew reached a 5.49 mark in her first meet of the season to claim bronze. Also placing third in the highly-competitive meet was Jade Nolan who earned a 11.64-meter mark in the triple jump, improving on her performance in the Gibson Invitational.
Caroline Muller, who currently holds the school records in both the indoor and outdoor high jump, finished the event with an impressive 1.65-meter mark that was good for third.
On the track, Laura Edwards (24.78) took home silver in the 200-meter dash to set a new personal best for the senior. Rutendo Chimbaru clocked in a time of 57.23 in the 400-meter dash improving on her performance at the Embry-Riddle Spike's Classic in Florida.
Rounding out the top-three performances for the women's squad was the relay team of Brooks, Edwards, Jessica Watkins and Kiersten Walker in the 4x100m relay. The group edged out the Fighting Illini (47.45) with a time of 47.05 to place second in the event.
Also marking success in the 4x100m relay competition was the men's team of Isaac Walker, Tony Pavloski, Adam Nelson and Brendan Van Voorhis. Earning silver, the group beat Marquette for the spot with a time of 41.05.
Walker earned bronze in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.98. Walker's performance marked a personal best, beating out his previous top mark set at the 49er Classic in March 2016.
Rounding out the top three performances for the men's squad was Kolani Cole in the 200-meter dash. The sophomore has improved on his time at every meet and he clocked in a new personal best of 22.00 that was good for bronze. The sophomore also set a new PR in the 100-meter dash with an impressive 10.99 time to earn a spot in the top 10.
