CHICAGO, Ill. - The Blue Demons took down St. John's by a narrow difference of 5-4 in game two to split the doubleheader against the Red Storm after falling earlier in the day. DePaul's record is now 30-10 (9-2 BIG EAST) and SJU's record drops to 23-17 (11-2 BIG EAST).

After getting walked in the top of the first, Maranda Gutierrez advanced to third on a double from Morgan Greenwood and scored on a ground out from Kate Polucha to put the Blue Demons on the board first.

The game would see slim action until the bottom of the fourth when St. John's would knot things up 1-1.

DePaul would score the next four runs of the game, three coming in the top of the fifth. Erin Andris was walked and stole second before Jessica Cothern reached in a fielding error, advancing Andris to third. A Greenwood single up the middle would score Andris to tack on another run for DePaul. With runners on first and second with one out, Polucha was walked to load the bases. Angela Scalzitti stepped up to the plate for a single, but would then advance to second on a fielding error that scored Greenwood and pinch runner Madison Fisher to make it 4-1 DePaul.

In the bottom of the fifth, a Red Storm batter launched a two-run home run to close in on the deficit, however, a solo home run from Greenwood would provide some insurance for DePaul to secure the game.

The rubber game of the series is set for Saturday with a 10 a.m. CT start.
