WASHINGTON, D.C. - DePaul topped the Hoyas 7-1 in the first of a three-game series at Georgetown.
Krista Dalgarn dominated in the circle, allowing only two hits and one run.
The Blue Demons were the first to leave a mark in the top of the third. Brianna Viles was walked, Jessica Cothern reached on an error and Morgan Greenwood was walked to load the bases. With one out in the inning, Kate Polucha exploded for a grand slam to put DPU up 4-0.
In the top of the fourth, Viles was walked and went on to steal second and then advance to third on a ground out from Angela Scalzitti. Cothern was brought home on an RBI single from Cothern to grow the lead to 5-0.
The Hoyas would put up their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-1.
DePaul brought in two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win. Greenwood doubled to left center before being replaced by pinch runner Madison Fisher. Polucha then slammed a double deep into left field to score Fisher. Polucha would be brought home on a double from Taylor Young before the side was retired.
DePaul will play the second game of today's doubleheader shortly.
