The Blue Demons travel to neighboring DeKalb to round out outdoor season
CHICAGO – The DePaul track & field squads are set to compete in the Huskie Classic on Friday at Northern Illinois in the final competition before next weekend's BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The annual meet will take place at NIU's complex in DeKalb, Ill.
The meet is scheduled to begin with field events at 1 p.m. with the javelin with running events following at 4 p.m. CT with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Last Time
During the Blue Demons' last trip to the Huskie Classic, two school new records were set. Emily Eller broke her own school record in the shot put with a distance of 15.06 meters. The senior still holds the current school record in the event.
The other program-best mark went to Gabrielle Howard in the triple jump with an impressive 12.07 meters to end the record set by Satin Crable in 2000. Howard, who currently serves as a graduate assistant for the team, had her record bested earlier this season by Jade Nolan's 12.22-meter jump at the Embry-Riddle Spike's Classic in Daytona, Fla.
Record Book Updates
A trio of program-best finishes led the Blue Demons at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational last weekend. Led by Jade Gates in the hammer throw, the sophomore standout threw a 61.85-meter PR that was good for third in the event and to break her own school record.
Also beating her own school record was Kiersten Walker (53.89) in the 400-meter dash. The sophomore from Milwaukee also holds the program record for the indoor 400-meter dash with a 54.49 mark.
On the men's side, newcomer Henry Larkin set a 46.46 PR in the 400-meter dash that was good for gold. His time tied the current program record was set by head coach Dave Dopek during his campaign as a Blue Demon. The Oakland native tied the mark at what was his fourth meet in a Blue Demon uniform – placing first in every event.
Looking Ahead
