Strus will be 35th DePaul player to play in NBA
CHICAGO – Every journey is different as the path for Max Strus started in the gyms of the Great Lakes Valley Conference to the arenas of the BIG EAST Conference and now to the professional ranks as he signed a two-way contract with the Boston Celtics.
Strus played in 66 games at DePaul and his career scoring average of 18.6 points per game is fourth in program history. He also ranks second all-time with 554 three-point field goal attempts, third with 194 three-point field goals, fifth with a .825 (226-274) free throw percentage, tied for 18th with a .350 (194-554) three-point percentage and ranked 29th with 1,226 points. Strus finished his DePaul career with eight games of 30 or more points to join Mark Aguirre (17 games), George Mikan (13) and Tom Kleinschmidt (8) as the only players in school history with more than five 30-point games.
His senior season saw him average 20.1 points per game and he joins Aguirre as the only players in school history with at least 700 points in a season. Strus set DePaul season records with 113 three-pointers and 311 three-point attempts and his 705 points are third on the season scoring list.
Strus started his collegiate career at NCAA Division II Lewis University where he scored over 1,000 points in two seasons including a school-record 666 points during his sophomore year while earning All-American honors.
The NBA's Two-Way Contracts began in the 2017 offseason as NBA rosters expanded from 15 to 17 players. NBA teams may have up to two players under NBA Two-Way Contracts who will spend the bulk of the season in the NBA G League and not more than 45 days with their NBA team.
DePaul alum Myke Henry also played under a Two-Way Contract with the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2017-18 season. Other BIG EAST players to sign Two-Way Contracts during the 2018-19 season include Trevon Bluiett (Xavier/New Orleans), Angel Delgado (Seton Hall/L.A. Clippers), Marcus Derrickson (Georgetown/Golden State), J.P. Macura (Xavier/Charlotte) and Isaiah Whitehead (Seton Hall/Detroit).
