Handful of First Place Finishes for Track & Field at Bill Clinger Classic

The Blue Demons garner five first-place finishes at first event of decade
CHICAGO – The Blue Demon track & field team returns from the Bill Clinger Classic with a number of successful performances including podium-topping finishes by Tori Carroll, Mackenna Orie, Kindle Miles, Ben Lee and Ashton Colaire. The meet, which saw over 1,300 competitors, was hosted by Grand Valley State University.
The Kelly Family Sports Center saw competitors from Notre Dame, Northern Illinois, Oakland, UIC, Valparaiso and other programs from around the region. The DePaul men's and women's squad both came in 7th place in the team rankings for a combined team score of 46 points to garner 9th place.
Starting off her junior season with an update to the record books Jade Gates measured in at 18.82 meters in the invite women's weight throw. The St. Louis native's distance was good for a 3rd place finish overall. A throw of 14.64 meters that was good for gold was launched by newcomer Mackenna Orie also came in the weight throw competition. Freshman Kindle Miles continued the success with a first-place throw of 12.36 meters in the shot put competition.
Rounding out the top performances among the women's squad, freshman Tori Carroll dominated the 60-meter dash. The Detroit native clocked a time of 7.74 seconds to beat out a field of 67 other competitors in the race.
For the men's squad, newcomer Ben Lee's performance in the 600-meter run earned him a spot atop the 41 competitors. His winning time of 1:19.34 set a new program record in the event. Also seeing success on the track for the men's team was junior Ashton Colaire with an 8.15-second finish in the 60-meter hurdles which earned him a first-place spot.
