Ashton Colaire sets new program record in the men’s 60-meter hurdles
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Continuing a successful start to the indoor season, nine podium finishes, multiple new personal bests and an update to the record books capped off the DePaul track & field teams' performances at the Illini Invite at the UI Armory.
Senior Ashton Colaire led the Blue Demon men's squad on the track, clocking in 8.00 seconds flat in the 60-meter hurdles that was good for a record book update. The Pickering, Ontario native was first in his preliminary heat with a time of 8.16 seconds and shaved off the .16 seconds to update the previous record set last season by his former teammate Kyle Decker.
Also seeing success on the track on the men's side were Adam Nelson, Henry Harper and the 1,600-meter relay group. Nelson's 60-meter dash performance clocked in a time of 6.83 that was good for 3rd place. Also seeing a top-three spot was Harper in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:42.98. Finally, the men's 4x400-meter relay team clocked in a performance of 3:26.71 that was also good for the third-place slot.
On the women's side, Jade Gates and Mackenna Orie stood atop the final standings in the weight throw and shot put, respectively. Orie's performance closely resembled last week's throw as she measured in at 14.62-meters in the shot put competition. No stranger to the podium, Gates' throw was also good for gold as the St. Louis native launched a 18.52-meter throw. The junior set a new program record in the weight throw last weekend at the GVSU Bill Clinger Classic.
Isabel Ingram led the women on the track as the sophomore from Ames, Iowa clocked in a time of 8.59 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to garner first place in the finals. Continuing success in the event, sophomore Dylan Armstrong earned third with a time of 8.89 seconds. Earlier in the day, the Goodyear, Arizona native set a new personal record in the 60-meter hurdle preliminary rounds crossing the line at 8.82 seconds on the clock.
