Freshman Michael Parry flirts with the men’s 800-meter program record, numerous PRs set in The Hoosier State
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — One day after senior Kyle Mastrangeli updated Adam Nelson's program record in the men's 60-meter dash and Jade Gates bested her own school record, the Blue Demons wrapped up the second-and-final day of competition noting many personal bests.
"This meet came at the midway point of our 2020 indoor season. It was meant to function as a barometer for where we were as a team," said head coach Dave Dopek.
Numerous Blue Demons updated their career bests, among them was newcomer Michael Parry's performance in the 800-meter run. His time of 1:51.27 narrowly missed the current record by .04 seconds but was good to put him at third place in the BIG EAST standings. Current program-record-holder Ben Lee also posted a new best in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.74.
Henry Larkin saw a new personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.18 seconds. The sophomore from Oakland, Calif. now leads the league in the event. Continuing success among the sprinters, Isabel Ingram's time of 8.51 seconds in the finals of the women's 60-meter hurdles was good for a season best update.
"While we definitely had some high-quality performances at this meet, we still have much work to do if we hope to be in position to be successful at the BIG EAST Championships," said Dopek. "With three weeks to go, we will continue to mature and become more competitive. As is always the case, we just have to continue putting the work in."
