Blue Demons eye third win in a row at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness
CHICAGO – A three-match home stand concludes on Super Bowl Sunday when the DePaul women's tennis team welcomes Michigan State to Lakeshore Sport & Fitness for a 4 p.m. contest.
The Blue Demons have gotten off to a 2-0 start in the dual-match season under new coach Marisa Arce. They opened with a 5-2 decision over Western Michigan last weekend and followed up with a 7-0 sweep of an Illinois State program that advanced to the NCAA tournament last year.
Senior Aspasia Avgeri will bring a sparkling 14-4 singles record into the weekend with Yuliya Kizelbasheva right behind her at 11-4. The freshman from Russia has won six in a row while Marija Jovicic is on a five-match winning streak.
Lenka Antonijevic has gone 10-4 in singles and Maddie Yergler is 9-4. Overall, the Blue Demons are 61-33 in singles matches and 10-2 in the dual season.
Heading up the doubles tandems is the Antonijevic/Kizelbasheva combo with a 13-6 mark. DePaul has yet to lose a doubles match in the dual season going 6-0.
Michigan State has started out 2-1 with victories over Eastern Michigan and Furman and a loss to No. 3 Georgia. The Spartans play Marquette on Saturday.
