Women's tennis takes on Purdue, Tulsa, Northern Illinois this weekend
CHICAGO – The Blue Demons will have their hands full this weekend with a pair of matches on the road followed by a return home to Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
Coach Marisa Arce and her women's tennis team look to get back on the winning track beginning Friday with a matchup against the Big Ten's Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
DePaul opened the dual-match season with three consecutive wins but lost twice last weekend on the road.
Lenka Antonijevic leads her team in the dual season with a 4-1 singles record and is 12-5 overall. Aspasia Avgeri is 3-2, 15-6 and Yuliya Kizelbasheva has begun 3-2, 12-6.
The doubles team of Marija Jovicic and Hristina Djokic has won its first four matches of the dual season and is a sparkling 7-1 overall. That duo has a seven-match winning streak. The Antonijevic/Kizelbasheva tandem is off to a 4-1 start at No. 1 doubles with an overall mark of 15-7.
Purdue will step onto the Schwartz Tennis Center courts with a 3-5 record having beaten Xavier, Butler and Miami (Ohio) while losing to No. 13 South Carolina, No. 20 Tennessee, No. 23 Washington, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.
Arce & Co. return to the Schwartz Tennis Center on Saturday for a neutral match against a talented Tulsa team that is off to a 7-2 start. The Hurricane has succeeded against Mercer twice, Louisiana Tech, Montana State, Wyoming, Mississippi State and Abilene Christian and lost to No. 5 Duke and No. 16 Oklahoma State.
On Sunday, DePaul will welcome Northern Illinois to Lincoln Park for a 5 p.m. match. NIU enters the weekend with a 5-3 record including victories over Green Bay, Olivet Nazarene, Milwaukee, Eastern Illinois and Doane and losses to Wisconsin, Creighton and Omaha.
