Blue Demons win every set in 7-0 triumph over Northern Illinois
CHICAGO – Give coach Marisa Arce and her Blue Demons credit. They certainly know how to break out of a mini slump in a big way.
DePaul snapped a four-match losing streak with a resounding 7-0 sweep of Northern Illinois on Sunday at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
Maybe it's a case of simply being back in Sweet Home, Chicago. After dropping those four decisions away from Lincoln Park, the Blue Demons roared back with a dominant performance as NIU dropped to 7-4 in the dual-match season.
DePaul (4-4) did not lose a single set all night as Aspasia Avgeri, Yuliya Kizelbasheva, Lenka Antonijevic, Marija Jovicic, Hristina Djokic and Maddie Yergler swept six singles matches in straight sets.
The only time Arce & Co. came close to losing a set was Marija Jovicic's 7-6(4), 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.
The Blue Demons were equally efficient in doubles securing the point after the Antonijevic/Kizelbasheva combo defeated the Huskies 6-0 at the No. 1 spot and Djokic/Jovicic prevailed 6-2 at No. 3.
Next, DePaul looks for its first win away from Lakeshore when it travels to Iowa City, Iowa next weekend for matches against Power Five conference opponents Iowa and Kansas State.
