Blue Demons drop 4-1 decision to Kansas State on Saturday
IOWA CITY, Iowa – DePaul competed hard against another top-notch opponent but came up short Saturday at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex.
Despite Yuliya Kizelbasheva's second consecutive singles win of the weekend and a doubles match that came so close to grabbing the doubles point, the Blue Demons lost 4-1 to Kansas State.
Kansas State (6-3) has also defeated Penn State, Arizona and Missouri this season.
Kizelbasheva was pretty much in control of the No. 3 singles match in prevailing over Margot Decker 6-3, 6-4.
After falling in the No. 1 doubles match, DePaul (4-6) tied it up with Hristina Djokic and Marija Jovicic's 6-3 victory over Lilla Barzo and Ines Mesquita 6-3 at the No. 3 slot.
Aspasia Avgeri and Alina Kuzmenkova went right down to the wire before dropping a 7-6(3) decision to Decker and Anna Turco at No. 2.
Coach Marisa Arce and her team will look to get back on track in their BIG EAST opener Thursday at Marquette.
