Several singles matches go deep into tennis' version of overtime
MADISON, Wis. – The Blue Demons had some epic individual battles in their match against 2019 NCAA tournament team Denver at Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
Aspasia Avgeri and Hristina Djokic went into tennis's version of overtime in securing points for the Blue Demons in their hard-fought 4-3 loss on Saturday.
Avgeri went toe-to-toe with Taylor Melville, winning the second set 7-6 after five tiebreakers and the No. 1 match after four more tiebreakers in the final set.
Djokic and Tatum Burger went back and forth at No. 5 singles with the final line reading an incredible 7-6 (5), 3-6, 1-0 (8).
Lenka Antonijevic scored the third DePaul point after a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Denver's Hada Chang.
Despite a victory by Djokic and Marija Jovicic in doubles, the Blue Demons lost the team point to Denver.
Coach Marisa Arce and her team will look to get back on the winning track Friday in a road matchup against the Big Ten's Purdue.
