Blue Demons adds graduate transfer to incoming class for 2020-21 season
CHICAGO – DePaul head coach Dave Leitao announced today that Pauly Paulicap is joining the program as a graduate transfer. Paulicap finished his undergraduate career at Manhattan after averaging 10.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game last season.
"Pauly solidifies our frontcourt for next season with his defensive abilities not only in blocking shots, but also rebounding," said Leitao. "On the offensive side, he's a consistent double figure scorer and a threat for a double-double every time he's on the court. Adding him to our other newcomers along with the returners from last season puts our program in a position to continue moving forward. We're excited to get this group together when we return to campus for workouts."
Paulicap started 71 of 72 games in his career with the Jaspers with averages of 9.9 points and 6.4 rebounds along with 148 blocked shots. He was limited to just 10 games in the 2018-19 season due to injury after being named the 2017-18 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. That season saw him average 10.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game while shooting .558 (111-199) from the field.
In addition to being ranked among MAAC leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, the 6-8 forward was also among league leaders in field goal percentage and offensive rebounding during the 2019-20 season. He started all 31 games and led the team with 18 games in double figures that included four double-doubles. Paulicap finished the season with MAAC All-Championship Team honors after averaging 15.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in tournament games against Fairfield and Siena.
Paulicap started his collegiate career at Harcum College and averaged 9.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting .602 from the floor and finishing sixth in the NJCAA in blocked shots. The Elmont, N.Y. native, prepped at Elmont Memorial High School where didn't play basketball until his junior year while also playing volleyball and was a member of the track and field team.
As a graduate transfer, Paulicap is eligible to play immediately next season. He joins a newcomer class that includes incoming freshman Kobe Elvis along with transfers Javon Freeman-Liberty, Brian Patrick, Courvoisier McCauley and Ray Salnave.
Freeman-Liberty played his first two seasons at Valparaiso and totaled 992 points with the Crusaders collecting numerous honors as both a freshman and sophomore. Over his two seasons with the Crusaders, he averaged 15.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game in 66 games.
McCauley was among the nation's top players last season at Lincoln Memorial as he earned NABC Division II All-American honors and was on the Bevo Francis Top 25 Watch List for the national player of the year. In 62 career games with the Railsplitters, McCauley totaled 946 points for a two-season average of 15.3 points per game. He knocked down 161 three-pointers while shooting .412 from behind the arc and averaged 5.1 rebounds per game.
Over his three collegiate seasons between Kansas State (2016-18) and Purdue Fort Wayne, Patrick played in 81 games with 75 three-pointers. Last season with the Mastodons, he played in 32 games with 31 starts while averaging 11.1 points per game and leading the team in free throw percentage at .813.
