Blue Demons look for fourth-straight win at Wish Field
CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer hosts the Seton Hall Pirates on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Wish Field. The Blue Demons have won two-straight BIG EAST matches at Wish Field and are looking to improve to 3-1-1 in conference action this fall. Wednesday's match will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports presented by SoFi.
DePaul and Seton Hall matchup for the 11th time ever and the Blue Demons will be searching for their sixth win in the all-time series. The Blue Demons fell to the Pirates in the last matchup between the sides, a 2-1 decision on Sept. 28, 2019. Seton Hall will be searching for its first BIG EAST win this season on Wednesday after losses to Providence, Marquette, Georgetown and Xavier.
DEFENSE LED BY BRICKMAN
Last week's action for DePaul was characterized by stingy defense as the Blue Demons were able to limit Creighton and Providence to just one goal total. DePaul senior defender Matty Brickman was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll after his performance in last week's matches. Brickman and the rest of the DePaul defense held Creighton to just five shots and only allowed one on goal in the Blue Demons' win on Wednesday. Saturday night, Brickman helped defend 19 total shots and allowed only four to end up on target against No. 25 Providence. Brickman has commanded the defense alongside centerback Grant Herbek, shutting down plenty of Friar attacking attempts in the later stages of the grueling road match.
RPI UPDATE
The NCAA RPI, a key ranking metric that serves as a predictor for the NCAA Tournament, has been released for the first time of the 2021 season. DePaul ranks eighth among BIG EAST squads in RPI, coming in at number 61 in the nation. Providence, who the Blue Demons tied with on Saturday, is ranked 17th and Seton Hall comes in at 80th in the nation.
BIG EAST STANDINGS
With seven points in conference play, the Blue Demons sit in fifth place in the BIG EAST this fall. DePaul and Marquette both currently have seven points, behind Georgetown, Villanova, Providence and St. John's.
