CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer is set to host the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. CT at Wish Field in Chicago. The match was originally scheduled for a 11:00 a.m. kickoff. The Blue Demons have won two-straight BIG EAST matches for the first time since the 2016 season, beating Xavier in overtime last Wednesday and defeating Creighton in Lincoln Park on Saturday.
The Blue Demons welcome Butler to Wish Field after the Bulldogs dominated the matchup in the BIG EAST opener on March 3. Butler cruised to a 5-0 win behind three goals from Wilmer Cabrera, Jr.. Butler hasn't posted a win since, battling to scoreless draws against Marquette and Xavier and dropping a 4-2 decision against Creighton on Wednesday. The Bulldogs hold a 7-2-3 edge in the all-time series.
DePaul won a pair of closely contested matches last week, defeating Xavier 3-2 in overtime and beating Creighton in Chicago, 2-1. Senior Timmy Iscra scored in both games, including the game-winner against the Bluejays, and earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors and TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week recognition.
Freshman Omar Ramadan, who assisted on both of Iscra's goals, earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week recognition. The Blue Demons had a number of standouts who helped propel the squad to both wins. Freshman Marek Gonda scored his first-career goal against Xavier and freshman Jacob Huth sent home the game winner, tallying his first collegiate goal.
Against Creighton on Saturday, Jake Fuderer found the scoresheet for the first time since scoring twice in DePaul's season opener, curling home a free kick in the first half. Fuderer's goal was his team-leading third of the season.
DePaul hosts Butler after having the week off during DePaul University finals week. After Saturday's home match, Blue Demons hit the road to take on Marquette next Wednesday in Milwaukee.
