Borowiak Posts Top-15 Finish, Blue Demons Complete BIG EAST Cross Country Championships

Olivia Borowiak earns best finish for a DePaul woman at the conference championships since DePaul joined the BIG EAST
CARY, N.C. – DePaul cross country competed at the 2020-21 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships in Cary, N.C. on Friday to wrap up a brief spring cross country season. The Blue Demon women were led by sophomore Olivia Borowiak who posted a 15th-place finish with a time of 21:06.5, the best finish at the conference championships since the Blue Demons have been a member of the BIG EAST.
"It was a tremendous day for Olivia and the program," said coach Derrick Peterson. "We'll now wait and see if that performance can get her into the NCAA Championships, which would be awesome."
After just one regular season meet this spring, the Blue Demons placed ninth as a team in the conference championship meet on Friday. Behind Borowiak, a cluster of DePaul runners that included Alexa Havon, Kate Jacobs, Margaret Hastings and Violet Harper came in just ahead of the 23-minute mark.
"Kate Jacobs had a great race," said Peterson. "She came out today with intensity and really showed up for the team from start to finish. I'm extremely proud of how she's wrapped up her career with us. The women were in an extremely competitive field. We showed up with intensity today that will help us progress forward."
The Blue Demon men placed seventh as a team with junior Shane Knanishu leading the squad. Knanishu finished the 8K race with a time of 24:47 which earned a 42nd-place finish. DePaul's Damian Rodriguez and Charlie McIntyre followed Knanishu, posting top-60 finishes.
"Shane had the performance of the day," said Peterson. "Otherwise, our freshman, Joe and Damian, had great performances for us as a team. We didn't get the outcome we wanted overall but we're definitely moving in the direction that we need to be."
