Spanjaard Honored as BIG EAST Athlete of the Week

DePaul standout went undefeated last week in singles and doubles
CHICAGO – Boris Spanjaard heads into DePaul's regular-season finale on Friday with a little extra momentum.
The graduate student from the Netherlands was honored on Thursday as the BIG EAST Athlete of the Week for men's tennis.
It is the second BIG EAST accolade this season for coach Matt Brothers and his program. Vito Tonejc was named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week on March 17.
Spanjaard was unbeaten in four matches last week against the University of Chicago and Xavier. He won both of his singles matches at the No. 3 position and teamed with Christopher Casati to sweep both doubles matches at No. 1.
He clinched the doubles point against both Chicago and Xavier while scoring the winning match point at Xavier.
Spanjaard and Casati are a team-best 11-3 in doubles with all but one match being played at the No. 1 spot and are 3-0 in conference doubles.
He will be shooting for his third-straight singles win on Friday as Omaha visits DePaul for a first serve at 12 p.m. Spanjaard will join fellow grad students Casati, Fran Tonejc and Tamas Zador in a Senior Day ceremony after their match at XS Tennis Village on the South Side.
