The Blue Demons totaled 19 top-five finishes over the two days of action
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – DePaul track and field wrapped up the second and final day of the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Demons accumulated 19 top-five finishes on the weekend and finished in fourth and fifth place as a team on the men's and women's side, respectively.
DePaul's Tori Carroll highlighted the day for the Blue Demons with a win in the women's long jump and posted a new meet record with a mark of 5.87 meters. The mark was a new personal best for Caroll, topping her mark at the Louisville Invitational earlier this year by only .01 meters.
"Overall, we had a pretty solid weekend," said coach David Dopek. "We are finishing up a very tough training cycle that is expected to yield big results a few weeks from now. The team showed up this week and had some competitive fight."
In the 100m hurdles, Isabel Ingram notched a victory with a time of 14.03. On the men's side, Ashton Colaire placed third in the 110m hurdles final and notched a new DePaul school record with a time of 14.35 that topped Otis Dunson's mark that had stood since 1995.
DePaul's Jarel Terry finished second in the men's 400m by posting a time of 48.19. The mark was a new personal best and was just off of the lead time of SIUE's Brandon Bentz.
In the women's 400m dash, Kiersten Walker also finished second. Her time of 55.05 was just a tenth of a second off of the lead mark by Iyanna Ross from Bowling Green.
"Many on our team came away with personal and or/collegiate bests," said Dopek. "When we're able to do that during a tough training cycle it's often a good sign that we're on the right track. We now enter the back end of our schedule where every meet is about sharpening ourselves for conference and for the frist rounds of the NCAA Championships. We expect the competition to be even tougher next weekend and the field will be larger and deeper than it was a few weeks ago back in Louisville."
DePaul will head to the Clarke Wood Open at the University of Louisville next weekend. The action starts in Louisville, Ken. on Friday, April 23. The meet will be the second-to-last regular season meet before the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 14 and 15.
