The entire Blue Demon roster earned ITA Scholar Athlete status
CHICAGO - DePaul men's tennis had all nine individual student-athletes named as 2021 ITA scholar athletes, as announced by the organization on Monday. The Blue Demons also earned all-academic team recognition as a group for 13th time in the last 14 years.
As a team, the Blue Demons posted a 3.901 GPA which easily exceeded the 3.2 benchmark to qualify for the all-academic team recognition. Individually, the entire group achieved GPAs higher than 3.5 to earn ITA scholar athlete status.
Chris Casati, Lars Peder Minsaas, Phasu Sirinit, Boris Spanjaard, Fran Tonejc, Vito Tonejc, Tripp Tuff, Luuk Wassenaar and Tamas Zador all notched plus-3.5 GPAs while balancing coursework and athletics during an unpredictable school year. The Blue Demons claimed the BIG EAST Championship earlier this spring on the court and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
The ITA advocates academia as a key aspect of the college tennis experience. Collegiate tennis players add to the rich intellectual community found on college campuses across the nation.
ITA student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2021, a total of 1054 Division I men student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 145 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
