Aneesah Morrow Named to Katrina McClain Award Watch List

Morrow picked as one of nation's top power forwards
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Aneesah Morrow of DePaul women's basketball was named to the Katrina McClain Award Watch List as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Thursday afternoon. Named after the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, the annual award in its sixth year recognizes the top power forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. As a freshman, Morrow was named a top-five finalist for the Katrina McClain Award.
Morrow averaged 21.9 points per game and a nation's-best 13.8 boards per game as a freshman in 2021-22. She was named National Freshman of the Year by the USBWA and WBCA while earning AP All-America Second Team distinction.
The Chicago native broke 13 BIG EAST records including all rebounding records and all rookie scoring standards. Morrow, a unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, shattered DePaul's single-season record for rebounds (457) a season ago while collecting 23 consecutive double-doubles and finishing second nationally with 27 on the season.
The winner of the 2023 Katrina McClain Award will be presented on a to be determined date, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Award (Point Guard), Ann Meyers Drysdale Award (Shooting Guard), Cheryl Miller Award (Small Forward) and the Lisa Leslie Award (Center), in addition to the Men's Starting Five.
Previous winners of the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award are NaLyssa Smith, Baylor (2021), Ruthy Hebard, Oregon (2018, 2020) and Napheesa Collier, Connecticut (2019).
DePaul will open the season with American on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Wintrust Arena with BIG EAST action set to get underway on Dec. 4 with a trip to Butler.
