DePaul held scoreless in Omaha

CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer (4-5-6, 1-3-4 BIG EAST) was held off by Creighton on Saturday night in Omaha, Neb. The Creighton Bluejays (6-3-6, 3-2-4 BIG EAST) held the Blue Demons scoreless, fighting to a 3-0 win.

Creighton started off the match with a shot in the first 30 seconds, but were unable to connect. Both teams continued to trade possession and attempts during the first 20 minutes of play. This included a cross by Cade Hagan on a breakaway that ended just far left.

The Bluejays got on the board first. Duncan McGuire scored on a long pass in the 23rd minute.

Omar Ramadan notched the first shot for the Blue Demons in the 25th minute. Jake Fuderer followed up with a shot of his own In the 27th minute, but it ended high.

Goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz totaled four saves at the half after facing eight shots with five on goal. The offense totaled two shots in the first 45 minutes of play.

Creighton added an insurance goal early in the second half. Jackson Castro found the back of the net in the 48th minute, putting the Bluejays up by two.

The Blue Demons added their first shot of the second half in the 71st minute. The shot by Diego Benitez came off of a corner kick from Omar Ramadan but ended far right. Jacob Huth added his first shot of the night in the 84th minute, but it was blocked.

The Bluejays added a go-ahead goal in the 87th minute..

Despite the three goal deficit, the Blue Demons defense played an important part of the match. Matty Brickman, Ethan Gordon, David Gripman and Grant Herbek helped to redirect and block many of the 19 total Bluejay shots.

Gandhi Cruz added three more saves in the final 45 minutes, finishing the match with seven total.

UP NEXT: DePaul will celebrate Senior Day on Wednesday when the Blue Demons take on the Villanova Wildcats for their final regular season match of the season. Festivities will take place before the match begins, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
