DePaul falls to the Butler 2-1
CHICAGO, Ill. – DePaul women's soccer lost to the Butler Bulldogs 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Wish Field. The two teams went back and forth for the majority of the first 45 minutes until Butler scored with three minutes left in the half. Sophomore forward Katie Godden responded with an equalizer in the second half to tie the game. In the end, a penalty kick awarded to the Bulldogs in the 66th minute gave the visitors the opportunity to push past the Blue Demons.
Butler rushed to attack DePaul's defense from the onset of the contest, maintaining pressure in the attacking third, but failed to make a connection. Defenders Sydney Parker, Maria Nordness and Olivia Beam aided goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson with a strong defensive effort, while Eriksson did her part, saving five out of Butler's seven shots on goal. As the end of the first half approached, Butler broke DePaul's backline and scored to take the lead.
In the second half, the Blue Demons turned up the offense pressure, putting up six shots including Godden's equalizer at the 58th minute mark. The two programs were tied 1-1, until Butler was awarded a penalty kick in the 66th minute. The Bulldogs converted from the spot reclaim lead. DePaul continued to be aggressive but could not respond before the end of the match.
