
Blue Demons Drop UConn Match 3-1

UConn's early goals pushed the Huskies past the Blue Demons
STORRS, Conn. – DePaul women's soccer fell to UConn 3-1 on Thursday night. The Huskies took control of the field in the first half with two goals. DePaul responded before the end of the first 45 minutes to get on the board, but UConn found the back of the net in the beginning of the second half to secure the lead.

At the start of the first half, UConn rushed in to attack the net, putting up three shots within the first five minutes of the match. Three more shots went up before UConn scored their first goal of the game in the 12th minute. The Huskies continued to put pressure on DePaul's attacking third, but goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson refused to back down, saving 11 of their 14 shots on goal. Senior forward Kristin Boos put up a shot in the 21st minute but it was saved by UConn's goalkeeper. In the 34th minute UConn made another connection with the back of the net to increase their lead to 2-0. Sophomore forward Katie Godden broke through UConn's backline and put the Blue Demons on the board in the 44th minute with an assist by freshman Olivia Beam. The teams ended the first 45 minutes of the game 2-1.Â

In the beginning second half, UConn struck again, scoring in the 51st minute to further their advantage. The two BIG EAST programs continued to go back and forth for the majority of the last 45 minutes. Junior midfielder Beth Smyth generated a shot in the 65th minute but could not connect. The Blue Demons continued to play strong, but in the end, UConn came out on top.Â
