Gibson Scores 31 as DePaul Grabs First BIG EAST Win

Blue Demons secure victory against Georgetown, 83-76
CHICAGO – The duo of Javan Johnson and Umoja Gibson powered the DePaul men's basketball team to its first BIG EAST conference win of the season against Georgetown, 83-76, following a pair of outstanding performances.
Gibson racked up 31 points on 8-of-12 shooting that included five three-pointers in addition to five assists. Johnson's night came with a career milestone as the graduate transfer eclipsed 1,000 points in his career early in the first half. He finished with 21 points and 5-of-7 three-point shooting.
Jalen Terry rounded out the double-digit scoring efforts for DePaul, posting his second-consecutive game with 14 points. Terry also contributed a season-high five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul (7-7, 1-2 BIG EAST) opened the game strong to a 15-5 lead that allowed them to control the first half. The Blue Demons went 9-of-15 from three-point range through the opening 20 minutes, led by Johnson who made all of his first five three-point attempts.
DePaul's 47-40 halftime lead quickly shrank as Georgetown (5-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) opened the second half with six-straight points. The Hoyas took their first lead of the game at the 15-minute mark on a three-pointer by Brandon Murray. Terry quickly swung the score back in DePaul's favor with a three of his own.
Georgetown's largest lead came with just under 10 minutes in the half, 61-58. The Blue Demons surged back on a 12-2 run, never trailing again in the game. DePaul iced the game in the final two minutes, going perfect from the free throw line for eight points, including six from Gibson.

- Yor Anei made his first start for DePaul since Nov. 14 against Minnesota. The Blue Demons are 4-0 this season with Anei in the starting lineup.
- DePaul has won three-straight in the series against Georgetown and five of the last seven meetings.
- The Blue Demon's 83 points are the most for DePaul against Georgetown since 2019 and the second-most in the all-time series.
