Aneesah Morrow Wins National Freshman of the Week for Third Time

ESPN's top-rated rookie averaged 24 points and 17 rebounds last week
CHICAGO – Aneesah Morrow's All-American candidacy along with becoming a leading contender for two National Player of the Year awards received more validation on Tuesday.
Just 24 hours after setting a BIG EAST record for most Freshman of the Week awards (11) in a season, Morrow was honored as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's (USBWA) National Freshman of Week for the third time this season.
No other player in the country has won the USBWA rookie award that many times.
The 6-foot, 1-inch power forward who has skyrocketed onto the women's basketball scene after scoring 31 points and grabbing nine rebounds in her NCAA debut finished last week averaging 24 points and 17 rebounds against No. 10/11 Connecticut and Georgetown.
She needs nine rebounds against Marquette on Wednesday to set a BIG EAST season record for rebounds in conference play. Morrow has 240, and Georgetown's Natalie Butler set the standard with 248 in 2013-14.
The former Simeon All-Stater has already broken two other BIG EAST records. Her 27 rebounds against Seton Hall on Jan. 30 eclipsed the single-game mark of 25 set by UConn's Peggy Walsh in 1986.
Morrow is also the first player to sweep the BIG EAST Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week three times in a season.
The relentless rookie comes into Wednesday's BIG EAST showdown with Marquette at Wintrust Arena leading the nation in double-doubles, rebounds, rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game. She is second in field goals, third in points and sixth in steals.
The starting five of Sonya Morris, Lexi Held, Deja Church, Darrione Rogers and Morrow ignite the nation's No. 1 offense which is also No. 1 in assists. The Blue Demons are averaging 89.6 points a game.
Morrow is averaging just a tad under 21 points and hauling down 13.7 rebounds a game. She also leads the team in steals, blocks and field goal percentage.
