USBWA Honors Aneesah Morrow for the Fourth Time This Season

DePaul's All-American candidate again selected National Freshman of the Week
CHICAGO – With every basketball accolade---and there have been plenty this season---Aneesah Morrow keeps breaking new ground.
Take Tuesday, for example. The U.S. Basketball Writers Assn. (USBWA) honored DePaul's All-American candidate as its National Freshman of the Week.
Again.
It marks the fourth time in 2021-22 that Morrow has been hailed as the best rookie in the land. No other freshman in the NCAA has won the award more than once.
This latest award puts the ascendant 6-foot, 1-inch power forward in some pretty exclusive company.
Last season, only two players matched Morrow's quartet of honors---Connecticut's Paige Bueckers and Iowa's Caitlin Clark who leads the nation in scoring and has recorded five triple-doubles.
Both sophomores, it could be argued that Bueckers and Clark are the two best underclassmen in the country.
Now, the nation's leading rebounder who wears No. 24 on her DePaul uniform is about to make that a trio.
The front-runner for National Freshman of the Year earned her latest distinction after averaging 22 points and 16 rebounds last week in remarkably consistent fashion.
She had with 21 points and 17 rebounds in last Wednesday's win over Marquette before racking up 23 points and 15 boards in Sunday's narrow setback at RV/- Villanova.
Speaking of consistency, Morrow now has 21 consecutive double-doubles---a feat duplicated by only three other players in the history of NCAA women's basketball. Her 24 overall doubles leads the nation.
She also leads the country in rebounds, rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game while ranking second in field goals, fourth in points and sixth in steals.
Morrow broke both the BIG EAST single-game rebounding record (27 at Seton Hall) and the season rebounding record for conference-only games. Closer to home, she set a new DePaul single-season rebounding mark with 401, eclipsing the 397 by All-American Diana Vines in 1986-87.
The conference record of 12 Freshman of the Week awards belongs to the former Simeon All-Stater as does the distinction of being the only BIG EAST player ever to sweep Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week three times.
With one final week of the regular season remaining and last call for USBWA weekly awards---Morrow is in one-for-the-thumb territory.
The Blue Demons take on Seton Hall on Friday's Senior Night at Wintrust Arena where Dee Bekelja, Deja Church, Lexi Held and Sonya Morris will be honored in a postgame ceremony.
