Men Finish Second, Women Third at BIG EAST Championships

DePaul records 15 podium finishes in a busy day at Gately
CHICAGO - DePaul track & field finished the 2022 BIG EAST Indoor Championships by making a statement, claiming second place as a team on the men's side and third on the women's. The Blue Demons wrapped up a busy Saturday that saw DePaul blue and red constantly on the podium and flying to new school records.
As a team, the DePaul men earned 99 team points, narrowly edging Villanova who came in third with 96. UConn claimed the men's team title. On the women's side DePaul finished with 84 team points behind Villanova and UConn.
For the Blue Demon men, the action began quickly in the sprint events on the track. Ashton Colaire and Darius Brown finished second and third, respectively, in the 60m hurdles. Cameron Attucks became a BIG EAST champion, running a 6.88 in the 60m dash, directly followed by Myles Marshall who took second with a time of 6.93.
In the 200m, Dominic Cole took bronze and ran a new personal best of 21.69. A DePaul record was shattered in the 4x800 relay, resulting in four bronze medals. The Blue Demons had another impressive relay performance in the 4x400 relay, running it in 3:13.80 to finish second. In the field, Jason Montano took second in the shot put, throwing for 15.97m.
The Blue Demon women picked up where they left off yesterday at Gately. Tori Carroll was DePaul's first event winner of the meet, running the 60m in 7.52 seconds followed by Jetta Mays running a 7.67. The Blue Demons also found the podium with Dylan Armstrong's 8.63 in the 60m hurdles and Kiersten Walker's 54.59 in the 400m, both third place finishes. Walker also took second overall in the 200m running a 23.73.
In the distance events, DePaul picked up a new school record when Olivia Borowiak snapped her own record in the 3000m by running a 9:36.77. After a strong showing in Chicago this weekend, the women's team have now broken a school record in every meet of the 2021-22 indoor season.
The women championed the 4x400 relay taking first overall with a time of 3:43.48. The team of Jade Pope, Lorie Cashdollar, Sonja Nagle and Kiersten Walker dominated the BIG EAST field to claim the gold medal. In the field events, Casey Mulvey threw for 14.23m in the shot put, which got her a silver medal.
