Outdoor Track and Field Season Opener includes Multiple Event Wins

The Blue Demons stacked up six first place finishes this afternoon.
CHICAGO - DePaul track & field jump-started the outdoor season with the Illini Invitational on Saturday in Champaign, Ill. Event winners included Billie Martin, Alex Bernstein, Charlotte Anderson, Jarel Terry, Kiersten Walker and Casey Mulvey.
Billie Martin started off the day with the hammer throw, throwing 53.65m for first place. In the javelin throw, Charlotte Anderson and Kaylee Stammer took first and third, respectively. The women's 400m was packed with DePaul athletes, including Kiersten Walker finishing first, Jade Pope fourth, Lorie Cashdollar fifth, Maia Mays seventh and Sonja Nagle ninth.
In the hammer throw, Alex Bernstein threw for 56.69m to win the event. Ben Litwin took second in the event throwing for 57.51m. In the 400m, Jarel Terry ran a 47.14, winning the event and picking up a new personal best time. The men's 1500m included a third place finish from Shane Knanishu, Joe Knanishu finishing 12th, and William Previdi crossing the finish line in 17th place.
DePaul will return to action with the Mt. Sac Relays meet in Walnut, California and the Long Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California both scheduled for next Thursday through Saturday.
